Welcome to LACUNA TATTOO
Lacuna tattoo is no longer a BUSY NESS, I’m Emma, I’m “un-branding” and I am a SOUL TRADER.
Lacuna refers to a gap, missing piece or empty space, and if you believe in fate, you might imagine you already have the tattoo.
Carl Jung shares that all psychic energy flows toward meaning and connection, while Donald Winnicott expresses that “artists are driven by the tension between the desire to communicate and the desire to hide”. Tattoos can serve to soothe this space between us.
Art is very special to me, Its been my salvation and the most profound relationship. I’m deeply passionate and grateful to have arrived in a deep place of trust and reverence for all I create.
I love to create anything whimsical or beautiful, floral and birds, pet portraits, memorials and sentimental pieces like activations or initiations.
I followed the path, got the degree, the apprenticeship, travelled, collected awards and accolades and then, found myself taking a left turn into the realms of the esoteric and energy. This left turn has shaped the way I show up in the world and my approach to art, Its revived the sacred in me, and the human.

INVESTMENT
Getting a tattoo is more than just an investment in the art; its an intimate journey towards creation. I encourage you to see this as an opportunity to invest in yourself, while I strive to offer value. By embracing the beauty, risk and reverence of this transformative process together we can create something truly special.
Typically I charge $180p/h
6 hour day for $1000.
Extended day rate up to $1200. By my discernment.
However, when it comes to larger pieces I often make a plan in regards to the best approach towards the creative concept. This has variables to consider like tattoo style, placement, size and comfortability in application. I amend my approach regularly to suit our vision, sometimes the path exposes itself as we progress.
Charging a ridged hourly rate when there are many variables to consider doesn’t always feel right to me. Together we might make a ‘plan’ and throughout the creative process the plan sometimes re routes, I will be sure to communicate throughout.
QUOTES
I loosley quote online based off the information provided.
It is difficult to quote online without all the required information and the quotes are just an estimate of how long I might guess a tattoo will take to complete.
To help me give you the most accurate quote possible, I ask for a brief description of your idea. Include some reference images to help determine imagery or style, a measurement in cm, advise us on colour or black and grey, placement on the body, and to let us know if the skin is compromised in anyway.
If the tattoo takes over 6 hours (day session) and either of us does not have the capacity for an expended session a follow up appointment is arranged to complete it.
Multiple bookings will be suggested for larger tattoo projects.
BREAKS WHILE TATTOOING: Be mindful of how many breaks you require and your expectation of the artists time and ability to complete your tattoo.
Returning clients, I adore you. Thank you for honouring me and the creative process over the many seasons of my career. It is truly appreciated.
THE ART
It is not unusual for clients to see their design the day before or the day of their appointment, especially for smaller pieces. I create digitally, which makes it easy to make amendments on the day together than email back and forth. This approach also helps me interact with the body and flow of the piece with more consideration and ease.
I’m interactive in my approach and working to be more prepared. There is a method to my madness many have come to appreciate. Below are some brief examples of what you may expect.
- Illustrative pieces. You can expect your design to be an outline only. This will show you the composition and size. Colours and styles can be discussed together and imagery can be shown to help visualize a fully rendered/coloured piece prior to starting the tattoo process.
- Realism/watercolour pieces. I tend to use photo reference, this does not require any drawing. For Floral and Realism pieces I use photoshop to combine imagery and adjust colours, hues etc. For these styles do not expect to see a ‘sketch’.
- Dotwork pieces. I may show you an outline, though the tattoo will be made using dots. A cleaner tattoo is made when the stencil/design is prepared using an outline. I can explain and use imagery to help you visualize the completed look while you can be comforted that the design will be inspired by any art you’ve shared as inspiration.
I trust that you have looked through my portfolio of work and are happy with the art shared prior to sharing your request.
FOR YOU
Please take responsibility for your tattoo. Do research. Tattoos are a procedure that require care and consideration.
- MIND YOUR HEALTH. Please understand a tattoo is an invasive procedure. Managing your health leading up to and following your tattoo is important. Ensure you are well rested, hydrated and that your immune system isn’t compromised. If your body is under strain it might result in a more painful or extended healing process, including jeopardizing the look of your tattoo once healed. As an artist I so appreciate a healthy respectful client.
- UNDERSTAND YOUR SKIN. Be aware that your skin may effect the completed look of your tattoo. Scars, stretchmarks, sunburn, freckles, pigment, and age will all effect the overall look or outcome of your tattoo. Preparing your skin by ensuring its clean, hydrated and exfoliated will help aid the tattooist. Be aware of sun esposure both prior and after the tattoo.
- KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. When considering what you are thinking of having made, understand that artists specialize in different styles. Take time to look through artists portfolios to ensure you are asking for work within their abilities, style and interests. Collect references and learn what style it is you are requesting.
DEPOSITS.
YOU MUST PAY A DEPOSIT for each appointment. Your appointment is void unless this has been paid. It is very important to do this as soon as possible to secure your booking. Once an appointment is made we will advise on deposit details.
The deposit is deducted from the total cost of the tattoo each session.
HOUSE KEEPING.
Please be considerate and understand that tattooing is a process that requires high concentration. Let me know if you plan on bringing a support person, sometimes we may not be able to have multiple people in the space. Please leave your children at home.
